Vouni: pottery and other finds

75 object photographs · 1927–31

Site: Vouni

This series holds 75 object photographs of pottery and small finds from the palace at Vouni, the hilltop building on the north-west coast that Alfred Westholm excavated for the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1928–1929. Most are the plain household wares of the palace: Plain White VI and VII jugs and bowls, coarse-ware bowls and a coarse vessel catalogued under no. 292, the number of the hoard, lamps, sherds, a faience piece (no. 324) and a few arrowheads. Each carries its object number from the excavation register (V. followed by the number).

A handful of photographs filed here belong with other series: a second view of the helmeted head of Athena (no. 210), a snake-head bracelet from the hoard (no. 292h), a group from the Korakas tombs, and the head of a kore statue assembled from five fragments (nos. 16, 4, 24a, 25 and 50). The pottery is listed in the object register of the palace in SCE III and classified there with the other finds. Tomb pottery from the cemetery at Korakas is in its own series; sculpture is in sculpture and terracottas. See also the excavation.
