Life and work
- 1865–1870Cesnola, having surveyed the fields round Dali for two weeks and leased about thirty acres, applied to Morris, who used his influence with the Porte to obtain the firman authorising excavation in Cyprus and had it renewed at the end of each year while he remained at Constantinople.

- 1865–1870Cesnola travelled to Constantinople to lay before Morris his complaint over the arrest of his consular cavass Mustafa Fefsi; Morris backed him, accepted a mixed commission (American commissioner Augustus J. Johnson, Consul-General at Beirut) and sent an ultimatum to the Porte, with two US warships at Larnaca; the Larnaca Caimakam was dismissed and Mustafa restored.
