Alexander Wasse

fl. 2001–2023

Prehistorian who co-edited the 2004 volume Neolithic Revolution with Edgar Peltenburg and co-wrote the 2020 re-assessment of Kalavasos-Tenta with Joanne Clarke.

Biography

Alexander Wasse is a prehistorian whose work on Cyprus concerns the island's first farming communities. With Edgar J. Peltenburg he edited Neolithic Revolution (2004), papers from a conference held at Drousha on 20-23 September 2001 by the British Council for the Levant in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus2. He contributed a chapter on climate, economy and change in Cyprus and the Levant to Joanne T. Clarke's 2007 volume on Cyprus in the sixth to fourth millennia BC3. In 2020 he and Clarke published a re-assessment of Kalavasos-Tenta, the Aceramic Neolithic site excavated by Ian A. Todd. They concluded that the Neolithic of Cyprus was founded by Levantine communities rooted in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A1. His institution and role are not recorded.
