Dhekelia: Larnaca District Museum rescue of a Late Cypriot tomb
1976 · Dhekelia
A half-looted Late Cypriot I and II tomb found and excavated in 1976 at the power station site at Dhekelia, east of Larnaca; its pottery went to the Larnaca Museum.
The project
In 1976 a half-looted tomb was found and excavated at the power station site at Dhekelia, east of Larnaca and a short distance from the shore1. It carries registration no. 9411. The report assigns its pottery to Late Cypriot I and II: White Slip I and II, Base Ring I and II, a wheelmade Red Lustrous bottle and Bichrome vessels, among them a handmade jug 28 cm high with geometric motifs and an added bird on the lower body, and a wheelmade krater 28 cm high1. The Larnaca District Museum acquired the tomb material, and Karageorghis's chronicle of the year's work in the Bulletin de correspondance hellénique reports it1.
