Bichrome Red Oinochoe

Description:

Pottery jug or oinochoe in Bichrome red ware; wheel-made; globular-ovoid body on a low ring base; tall, slightly conical neck with a trefoil mouth; two-ribbed handle from shoulder to rim; pink-buff clay with a red slip and black and white painted decoration: a floral volute on the body opposite the handle (black outline with white in-fill, the latter now mostly eroded) is flanked by concentric circles arranged vertically; a horizontal register of rosettes composed of black and white dots flanked by concentric circles runs around the shoulder of the vase; parallel bands in black on the junction of the neck and shoulder (with added white dots) and on and below the rim.
