Cyprus: Its Ancient Cities, Tombs, and Temples is Luigi Palma di Cesnola's account of the excavations he directed in Cyprus while he was American consul there, from his arrival at Larnaca in 1865. This copy is the second edition, published by Harper & Brothers in New York in 1878. In his preface Cesnola says he wrote it partly to answer scholars who had asked whether his excavations were systematic and recorded, and he describes the limits set by his Ottoman firman and his private means.

After an introductory history of the island, eleven chapters follow his work site by site, mixing narrative of travel and local events with descriptions of finds: Larnaca and Kition, Dali (Idalion), Athienou and Golgoi, Paphos, Amathus and Curium (Kourion), where he describes the "treasure vaults" of a temple. The appendices are C. W. King's catalogue of the rings and gems from Curium, A. S. Murray's notes on the pottery of Cyprus, and the inscriptions Cesnola recorded in Cypriote, Phoenician and Greek.
