Savo Kujundžić
fl. 1978–1992 · Yugoslav
Mechanical engineer, by his own sworn account, active 1978–1992. Worked at Vienna (engineering firm's offices, mid-1991). Worked with Peg Goldberg and Aydın Dikmen.
Life and work
- 1978By his own sworn account, met Aydin Dikmen in Belgrade, where Dikmen was buying ships for scrap, and saw him regularly after moving to Munich.

- 1989–1990Offered to testify for Peg Goldberg in the appeal in Republic of Cyprus v. Goldberg (Kanakaria mosaics); Hofstadter has him offer help during her stay in Munich.
MunichHofstadter 1994
- August–September 1989Said (sworn statement, repeated to Hofstadter in 1991) that after the trial he recovered from Yanni Petsopoulos a number of antiquities that Dikmen had left with him; Hofstadter notes Petsopoulos would dispute this.
- 1989–1991NamedMichel van Rijn tells Hofstadter that Savo was 'based in Munich and had some sort of tie-in to the mob' and recounts an anecdote of Savo planning to smuggle an Impressionist painting into Holland; Savo, under oath, 'contemptuously dismissed the rumor that he was some sort of crook'. Neither claim is tested in the source; no charge or ruling is recorded.
- May 1990Gave a videotaped sworn statement taken by Goldberg's lawyer (Joe Emerson); Cyprus's lawyers boycotted it as untimely. Said Dikmen no longer held the missing Kanakaria mosaics and that he knew where they were but preferred not to say. On 3 August 1990 a motion to set aside the judgment was filed on the basis of the statement; three months later it was denied, Judge Noland finding that the statement, even if wholly true, did not undermine the Cypriot case.
IndianapolisHofstadter 1994
- June 1991Interviewed by Hofstadter at his Vienna offices; said he acted out of friendship for Dikmen, and when pressed admitted a stake: 'You may say I have some share in them' (the missing Kanakaria mosaics).
