Consular staff

Jean Peristianis

fl. 1896

Consular employee, active in 1896. Worked at Limassol. Acted for Théophile Homolle; worked with Auguste-Emile Boysset and Paul Perdrizet.

Life and work

  1. 1896
Perdrizet reported that the Peristiani brothers of Limassol, of whom Jean was the French consular agent, had enabled him to copy and take squeezes of the Amathus inscription, and proposed Jean as the man to negotiate the purchase (for the Louvre) of a tomb find from a peasant's field; he noted that the British Museum's most active agents lived at Limassol and that the Ottoman Bank had a Limassol branch for payment.

  2. November 1896
Perdrizet wrote that Peristiani, 'notre agent consulaire à Limassol', had sent a letter about further inscriptions at Amathus (the discovery becoming 'colossale', in Peristiani's word); Homolle, informed at once, put a fairly large sum at the disposal of M. Boisset and Peristiani to try to conclude the purchase.
