Life and work
- 1862Hosted William Waddington at Larnaca during the Vogüé mission; Duthoit's account says Vogüé and Duthoit lodged with the French consul Du Tour, 'pendant que Waddington logeait chez le Consul américain Barclay'. Elsewhere Duthoit writes that 'le Comte du Tour, consul de France et M. Barclay, consul d'Amérique' offered lodging and table.

- 28 June 1863A letter from Larnaca dated 28 June 1863 to the Comte de Vogüé (writer not identified on the page read) says 'Mr. Barclays and myself are desirous of learning when it is your intention to publish your researches in Cyprus'.

- 1864Asked Secretary of State Seward to move him to a vacancy at Alexandria, citing the poor salary ($1000 a year); went to the US on leave and learned there that Cesnola had been appointed to his post.
