Life and work

  1. 1950s – 1960s
    Advocated permanent Cypriot (and Etruscan) galleries in the British Museum; his work on a suite of rooms showing the chronological development of Greek and Roman archaeology laid the groundwork for later cultural displays including Cyprus.

  2. 1960–1970
    Spearheaded the renovation programme that reinstated the upper Greek and Roman galleries after wartime damage (completed at the end of the 1960s).

  3. 1969
    Arranged the reissue of Excavations in Cyprus (the Museum's 1900 report), noting in the new preface that it remained the only source for these excavations.
