Bülent Kızılduman

fl. 2004–2019 · Türkiye

Archaeologist at Eastern Mediterranean University in north Cyprus who surveyed the Morphou area and published the Late Bronze Age site of Kral Tepesi with Uwe Müller.

Biography

Bülent Kızılduman, an archaeologist of Eastern Mediterranean University, published the Late Bronze Age site of Kral Tepesi at Kaleburnu (Galinoporni) in the Karpas peninsula. In 2004 a hoard of 34 metal vessels and tools was found by chance, and Uwe Müller of the university began a rescue excavation with a Tübingen team including Martin Bartelheim and Ernst Pernicka1. Kızılduman co-wrote a note on the site with Müller in 20043, and was one of six authors of the 2008 article on the hoard4. In 2017 he published a Late Bronze Age building at Kral Tepesi in Olba and in TÜBA-AR6,7.

According to Lâtife Summerer, the Department of Antiquities of the Republic of Cyprus claimed that the site had been known since 1962, so that the dig was planned and illegal under international law; she calls this incorrect1. She also writes that Tübingen ended its cooperation in 20151.

Earlier, in 2004 and 2005, he surveyed the Morphou (Güzelyurt) area with a focus on Bronze Age sites1,5. His master's thesis dealt with metal finds from a Middle Bronze Age tomb at Motides (Karavas), excavated by the Department of Antiquities and Museums of the north1.

In 2012 Summerer began the book The Northern Face of Cyprus together with him; he could not co-edit it for lack of time, and it appeared in 2016 with his chapter on Kral Tepesi written with Müller2. His 2019 survey at Taşlıca (Neta) and Mersincik (Mersinaki) was published with S. Öğmen in 20221,8.
