History

  1. 1936
112 icons were collected in three rooms of the church; they were studied by the Church Committee and G. Soteriou, who prepared a plan for display in a Byzantine museum. The icons were treated by the artist-conservator Frangoullides, a treatment that the source says later proved damaging, with many icons destroyed.

  2. 1978
The icon collection became the nucleus of the Byzantine Museum founded in 1978; the Virgin Orans/Blachernitissa icon found among the Phaneromeni icons is exhibited there today.
