The Cypriot collection

The Society held no lasting Cypriot collection; it acted as a conduit, receiving purchases and gifts of Cypriot vases and passing them to the National Archaeological Museum (about 850 Cypriot objects there today) (2003)

    Cesnola's gift of vases to the Society, listed by Masson as ending up in the Athens National Museum.

  2. July 1880
    The National Museum acquires 67 Cypriot vases (inv. 61-128) from the Society, from purchases and donations; three are registered as donated by G. S. Menardos.

  3. 1894–1897
    The Society buys the collection of G. Philimon, Greek consul at Larnaca 1894-1897, for 8,500 drachmas and cedes it to the National Museum (inv. 11800-12035, 12038-12073); the passage gives no purchase date. A few more pieces were bought from him for 500 drachmas.

  4. 1895–1896
    Part of Zacharias Bakoulis's collection (inv. 11560-11601) reaches the National Museum through the Society in 1896; another part (11602-11690) was given by Bakoulis himself.
