The Cypriot collection
Recke's 2012 survey lists 4 stone sculptures and 18 ceramic pieces (Middle Cypriot to Cypro-Archaic), with war losses in 1943, plus later gifts in 1996 and 1998. The whole Leipzig collection is about 10,000 originals. (2012)
History
- 1840The teaching collection began in 1840 when plaster casts and Greek vases first arrived, under Wilhelm Adolf Becker, who had begun the collection in 1836 according to the museum's page. Recke's entry gives the old holdings as 'Alter Besitz 1840/41'.
