  1. March 1930
    Archbishop Kyrillos III wrote to the Academy asking for an expert in Byzantine art to study and catalogue the island's Byzantine monuments.

  2. August 1931
    The Academy sent Georgios Soteriou, professor of Christian Archaeology at the University of Athens, to Cyprus to study the monuments and help create the Byzantine Museum; on 17 Sept 1931 he proposed an Archbishopric office for collecting and maintaining Byzantine monuments and portable antiquities.

    Soteriou published 'Ta palaiochristianika kai byzantina mnemeia tes Kyprou' in Praktika tes Akademias Athenon 1931: 477-90; in 1935 the Academy of Athens published his album Ta Byzantina Mnemeia tes Kyprou.
