The project
F. G. Maier surveyed Rantidi in 1979 and 19801. The work of 1980, a second thorough inspection by the Swiss-German expedition, was sponsored by the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut and the University of Zurich2. Germanos hill and its surroundings, in Rantidi forest above the Khapotami valley, were systematically inspected and mapped2. The inspection confirmed a sanctuary at Germanos-Rantidi and supported the accuracy of R. Zahn's earlier notes on its terracottas2. The report records four deposits of material abandoned by tomb looters: 536 fragments of Archaic and Classical terracottas, mostly from large statues, a new inscription fragment, 12 basalt axes and other Chalcolithic tools, Red-on-White pottery, and pottery from Archaic to Roman times with some medieval material2. Maier's account, Rantidi 1979–1980, is in The Syllabic Inscriptions of Rantidi-Paphos (1983)3.
