Erimi-Pitharka: the Recht excavations

Excavations at Erimi-Pitharka began in 2022 under Lærke Recht and K. Zeman-Wiśniewska, with the University of Graz and Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw^1,2. They continued in 2023 and 2024³. The 2025 report dates the site to Late Cypriot IIC-IIIA, and its authors, Recht, Zeman-Wiśniewska, Clark and Yamasaki, describe it as a Kouris Valley centre for the production and storage of agricultural products³. From 29 April to 7 June 2024 the team continued in earlier trenches and opened four new ones in Area I/1A, aiming to clarify the extent and role of the building there³. The work revealed further rooms, open spaces and industry-related features, with walls and installations often cut into bedrock; the report describes the largest and as yet most formal room in the complex³. A season update reports a large cut-stone room with an olive-press weight and grinding tools, and an abandonment without burnt destruction¹.
