The project
The Graz Amargeti Survey began in 2019 under Gabriele Koiner of the Institute of Classics, University of Graz, with authorization from the Director of the Department of Antiquities1. Koiner and her co-authors present it as a response to the limited earlier investigation of Amargeti, the unintegrated earlier results, uncertainty about the location of some findspots, and continuing unauthorised excavations that made an assessment of their condition necessary1. The first campaign, from 22 to 29 October 2019, covered the fields of Asomatos and Petros Anthropos north of the village and combined systematic intensive and extensive surface survey, analysis of aerial photographs and satellite data, and ground-penetrating-radar prospection, with measurements by Rainer Morawetz and Andreas Milchrahm1. A campaign planned for 2020 was cancelled because of the COVID-19 crisis, and a second took place from 4 to 17 October 20211. The report on the 2019 campaign appeared in 2022 in the proceedings of the 18th Austrian Archaeological Day1.
