The project
On a visit to Moulos in 1961, Vassos Karageorghis and K. Nicolaou collected surface sherds from the western slope of the promontory at Akanthou-Moulos1. They found Late Cypriot I-III pottery, Mycenaean IIIA and IIB-IIIA-B fragments and two Minoan IIB sherds, one a stirrup-jar handle incised after firing with a Cypro-Minoan sign1. Roman and early Christian pottery lay across the rest of the plateau, with visible wall remains and large marble blocks1. Karageorghis proposed that the Late Bronze Age sherds came from a cemetery rather than a settlement, since they lay in a small area and no building remains were found there, and suggested a single tomb opened clandestinely1. The collection is registered as 1961/VIII-12/11.
