Black Slip Amphora
Pottery amphora in Black Slip ware; wheel-made; ovoid body on a low conical foot (concave underneath); wide concave neck and everted rim with chamfered edges; pair of opposing twisted handles; coarse buff-cream clay with a thin matt black slip, rather shallow vertical fluting on body beneath a band of double ridge around the shoulder; surface of vase is calcinated and slip very abraded, foot chipped; shape of rim is distorted, possibly from firing.
