Description

A snow-covered dirt road curves across the picture, with two dark vehicles driving away towards the left. Snow lies thickly on the verges and the bank beside the road, and a large tree with spreading branches stands at the right. Beyond, a flat plain stretches to low hills under a cloudy sky.

English, as on the record

SNOW ON THE KYRENIA ROAD. Mangoian Bros. "It is very uncommon to see snow : and if it happens to fall, it dissolves almost as soon as it reaches the ground …. I must, however, except one valley at the bottom of Mount Olympus, where the snow is hardened by the winds, and continues to the middle of summer. The inhabitants of the neighbouring places are obliged to carry to the seraglio, or palace of the governor, as much of it as may be necessary for making ice." Abbé Mariri-1760-1767 (Travels through Cyprus)
