Description

A view over the harbour from higher ground, with a curved quay lined by tall white houses with balconies and shuttered windows. Several small boats lie in the dark water, and two tiny figures stand on the quay. A white tower rises above the houses on the right, with low hills and open sea beyond; flat-roofed buildings in the foreground sit above a line of trees.

English, as on the record

KYRENIA "It is an ancient city, small but strong, and well-walled, with a good harbour, which, though small, is closed with a chain and well-defended. It is the most healthy district of the whole Kingdom of Cyprus because it lies open to the west wind." Pero Tafur-1435 (Andancas e viajes) A.Y. Tilbian & Son
