Description

Moored wooden boats with tall masts and rigging fill the foreground of a harbour. Behind the water, a row of multi-storey houses with balconies lines the quay, backed by hills, with a slender tower above them. At right, a boat with large furled sails sits by the quay, and a small cabin boat with an awning is at lower right.

KYTENIA HARBOUR. "It is an ancient city, small but strong, and well walled, with a good harbour, which though small is closed with a chain and well defended. It is the most healthy district of the whole kingdom of Cyprus because it lies open to the west wind." Pero Tafur-1435 (Andancas e viajes). Mangoian Bros.
