Description

A vertical, irregular column of hardened, pitted material stands out from the face of an excavation cutting. Its surface is rough and crumbly, with dark hollows and broken edges. A lighter soil face lies to the left and a dark, shadowed cutting wall to the right, with the top edge of the cutting at the top of the frame.

Description, scan 2
A tall, irregular column of pale, crumbling material rises through the middle of the frame, its surface pitted with dark hollows and a broken cavity near the top. It stands against the darker earth of a cut face behind it, which shows faint tool marks, while a flat, pale soil surface fills the left side. The form reads more as hardened soil or ash than clearly charred wood.
