Description

Several men and a boy work around a rectangular pit with stone-built sides at the bottom. Wooden beams lie across the opening and ropes hang down into it. A man in a waistcoat crouches at the left edge, a man in a fez stands behind the pit, and men in hats hold the ropes on the right while a boy watches from the far right; rubble heaps and the sea lie behind.

Description, scan 2
Several men and a boy work around an open stone-lined cistern at Vouni, with a wooden frame built across its top. Two men on the left lean over the edge, while men in hats pull on ropes at the right. A heap of pale rubble lies behind them, and the sea shows as a flat band on the horizon.
