Description

A man in a white shirt and shorts kneels at the edge of a large plan made of many paper sheets joined together on a paved floor. Small stones hold the paper corners flat, and a wooden batten runs along one edge. Tall stone blocks form a wall behind him, and a pith helmet lies on the ground beside him.

Description, scan 2
A man in a light shirt and shorts crouches at the corner of a stone-walled court, one hand resting on a large paper plan laid over the ground. The plan is made of many sheets joined together, with pale pencilled rooms and walls, and it is held down by small stones and a straight wooden batten along one edge. A pith helmet lies beside him on the ground, and the masonry walls rise behind him.
