Description

Small pale and grey tesserae of a mosaic floor are exposed in the bottom of a trench. Soil stains and worn patches cover parts of the surface, and the mosaic runs diagonally across the picture. On the right, a steep face of dark earth and rubble forms the side of the trench, and the lower part of the image is darker soil.

Description, scan 2
A close view of a mosaic floor made of small square tesserae, mostly pale with some darker stones, laid in a fairly regular grid. The mosaic is cut through by the excavation, with soil and a dark earth band in the foreground and a rough trench wall on the right edge. No people or scale are visible.
