Description, scan 2
About thirty workers, most in hats and light clothing, dig on a bare, sloping mound while spoil heaps rise behind them. Wheelbarrows stand on the ground in the foreground, and a woman in a long dress walks among the diggers. Beyond, a flat plain stretches to a bay of water and distant hills under a pale sky.
