Life and work

  1. 1978
Karageorghis's annual Chronique published selected pieces of the collection: two fragmentary Chalcolithic Red-on-White zoomorphic vases attributed to Souskiou, a Middle Bronze Red Polished tripod bowl with basket handle and bird, and a Phoenician-type bronze bowl

  2. 1978
NamedKarageorghis writes that the collection 'est riche en poterie Red Polished, acheté à une période où les cimetières de Marghi et Kotchati étaient systématiquement pillés'. No charge or proceeding is stated, and the statement is about the pottery, not a finding about the collector.

NamedIn the 1999/2010 catalogue Karageorghis writes that the Severis Collection was formed mainly in the early 1960s to early 1970s under the Department of Antiquities' 'silent accord', when Cypriots with access to Turkish Cypriot enclaves were allowed to buy looted material so that it would stay in the country, and that the Chalcolithic pieces may come from Souskiou, the Red Polished from Marki-Davari and others. Hardy (2014) counts 288 catalogued pieces and judges all of them 'probably looted during the civil war'. These concern the Leto and Costakis Severis Collection; that this is the same collection as 'Z. Severis' is a probable identification, not confirmed.
