Cypriot foreman, active 1936–1970. Excavated at Bellapais-Vounous, Myrtou-Stephania and Karmi-Palealona. Worked for Basil Hennessy and James Rivers Barrington Stewart; worked with George Roy Haslam Wright and Yiannis Kleanthous.

    First worked for Jim and Eleanor Stewart at Vounous (Bellapais); Powell calls him a close friend and part of Stewart's earliest plans for a grand survey of Cyprus.

    Foreman of Hennessy's Stephania (Myrtou) tomb excavation, with the architect G.R.H. 'Mick' Wright; the same team also cleared four Roman graves at Myrtou-Sphagion in the last week.

    Foreman (printed 'Typhon Koulermos') for James Stewart's Karmi campaign (Lapatsa and Palealona), alongside Yiannis Kleanthous of the Department of Antiquities, three students, the Nicholson Museum conservator Derek Howlett and Betty Cameron.

    Powell describes him as 'the quiet and efficient Tryphon Koulermos', dig foreman 'as usual'; Stewart always hired a Cypriot foreman, and Tryphon remained his most trusted workman, left in charge. (Context: the Karmi campaign described at this point.)

    Eve Stewart planned to hire Tryphon and six local workmen for a proposed return to Palealona; no permit from Vassos Karageorghis's Department came through and the visit became a volunteer clearing of looted tombs.
