Royal Navy officer, hydrographer, active in 1849. Worked with Edmund Leycester.
Life and work
- 1849Produced the first accurate hydrographic chart of Cyprus under Thomas Spratt of HMS 'Volvage'. During that year several members or associates of the expedition visited the island's major archaeological sites in the company of the local antiquarian Demetrios Pierides, who also copied inscriptions while accompanying Spratt (perhaps at the same time as Commander Edmund Leycester's visit) and later wrote to Charles Newton about them.
