Marialucia Amadio

fl. 2013–2023

Archaeologist of Bronze Age Cypriot architecture who analysed the floors of Erimi-Laonin tou Porakou by micromorphology and was scientific coordinator of the Erimi project in 2023.

Biography

Marialucia Amadio studies how Bronze Age Cypriot houses were built and floored, and she has worked at Erimi-Laonin tou Porakou in the Kouris valley. She completed a PhD at the University of Reading in April 2017 with a thesis titled Architecture and Urbanisation in Bronze Age Cyprus1. She then held postdoctoral posts at Torino from 2018 to 2020 and Pisa from 2020 to 2022, and by October 2023 she was at Ghent University on the ERC Daedalos project; the same note names her scientific coordinator of the Erimi-Archaeological project directed by Luca Bombardieri3.

Erimi-Laonin tou Porakou was identified in 2007 by a survey of the Kouris valley and was occupied from Middle Cypriot I, around 1960 BCE, until its abandonment before Late Cypriot IA, around 1650 BCE. Amadio excavated its Area A, a workshop, and Area B, domestic, by open-area methods, leaving sections and plinths for vertical profiling, and took 11 micromorphology blocks from the floors2. Her 2018 article in the Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports analysed the floor-plaster sequences by micromorphology, FTIR and XRF2.

In 2023 she published Building in Prehistoric Cyprus (Studi ciprioti 2, Edizioni Ca' Foscari, Venice)3. With Andrea Villani and Bombardieri she also published "Fast & Furious? Abandonment practices in Bronze Age Cyprus"4.
