- 1970While attempting to form an Institute for Cypriot Studies in Nicosia, found that the site of Idalion had been assigned to the new Institute by government authority, presumably to encourage it to expand into ancient as well as modern studies.

- 1970With the assistance of Mary Goggin, Paul W. Lapp was asked to form a team and initiate excavation in 1970; the plan ended with Lapp's sudden death by drowning at Six-mile Beach, west of Kyrenia, days before digging.
