Collector
Elisabeth Działyńska (née Czartoryska)
fl. 1891–1982 · Poland
Née Czartoryska, named as the buyer of a lot of four Amathus gold plaques at a Paris sale of Cypriot antiquities in June 1891; the plaques went to the Gołuchów collection in Poland.
Biography
Four gold plaques from Amathus, later part of the Gołuchów collection in Poland, were sold in Paris in 1891 to a buyer named in print as Elisabeth Działyńska, née Czartoryska. On 15 and 16 June 1891 the Hôtel Drouot sold antiquities, among them an "envoi de Chypre" of lots 31 to 146, with H. Hoffmann as the sale's expert1. Lot 31, a group of gold plaques, was "acquis par E. Dzialinska (née Czartoryska)", and Wilhelm Froehner published it a few years later1.
Z. Kapera found in the sale report in the Archives de la Ville de Paris that the lot went to a Mademoiselle Rousset, who acted as her agent in Paris1. Froehner's 1897 catalogue of the Gołuchów goldwork lists eleven gold leaves, all from Amathus in his account: the four of lot 31 and seven acquired in another way1. Antoine Hermary also notes a limestone group of a dog and a hare from lot 127 and a terracotta boat model, both formerly at Gołuchów, and suggests that the consignment came very probably from Georges Lanitis of Limassol1. Her dates are not recorded in the sources we have.
