- by 1883Reported at the Feuardent v. Cesnola trial, in the testimony of the museum photographer George C. Cox, as the man who 'discovered one finger too many' on the restored 'bearded Venus'; Cox called Cesnola's attention to it and Cesnola had the extra finger removed. Savage, in the same report, gives the same finger as his own discovery (while preparing a catalogue) and says Balliard removed it on Cesnola's orders.
