    Renan (letter of 1 Aug 1862) tells Vogüé that Commandant Simon would give all help needed to ship the Amathus vase, e.g. by a hired native boat towed to Toulon; Renan's earlier letter (10 Apr 1862) said the commandant of the Beirut station would be ordered to collect the mission's finds from Cyprus
