Carlo Vidua di Conzano

fl. 1826 · Italy

Italian epigrapher and traveller, active in 1826.

Life and work

  1. 1826
Published Inscriptiones antiquae in Turcico itinere collectae (Paris, 1826), which includes Kourion inscriptions. Mitford says the copies came from 'Vidua's unnamed authority' early in the nineteenth century, including three texts (his nos. 38, 45 and 84) from a pedestal and base in the Sanctuary of Apollo, 'in colle silvoso' about an hour west of the village of Episkopi; the pedestal was then lost until Mitford found it whitewashed in the Episkopi police station yard in 1936.

  2. 1826
Costello calls Vidua's 1826 work the first appearance of Kourion in the history of archaeology: one inscription in his corpus was copied 'among the ruins of the ancient hill of Curium'.
