    Told of a rumour that a major Byzantine work was surfacing on the market, went to London to ask Yanni Petsopoulos, who passed him two photographs of the Lysi murals; he then showed them to Dominique de Menil in Paris.

    With de Menil, her assistant Elsian Cozens, Walter Hopps and Petsopoulos met two Turkish men in Munich; the 'collector' was Aydin Dikman, who claimed the murals were legally taken from Turkey. They were shown the cut plaster segments in a rented flat; the Menil connection was not disclosed.
