    Consulted by Renan (Paris) about shipping the 8-tonne Amathus vase for the Louvre: judged it impossible for the Bucéphale (maximum 5 tonnes for much larger ships); proposed hiring a local barge, loading the vase by an inclined jetty and towing it to Toulon behind a steamer, with Commandant Simon's help.
