    Reported to have been in prison in England in the late 1980s for smuggling, 'not for smuggling antiquities' (an unnamed official quoted by Hofstadter).

    NamedHofstadter's informants name him among men who stripped Cypriot churches (with Hasan Harman, Mustafa Avçibaşı, Kemal Köse) and call him the biggest smuggler on the Turkish Cypriot side; no conviction for antiquities is reported. His separate prison term is for smuggling that Hofstadter's informant says was not antiquities.
