Visitors to three archaeological sites in the south of Cyprus will have to pay by credit card for three months this winter. The Department of Antiquities announced on 26 October that cash will be refused at Kourion, Kalavasos-Tenta and Paphos Castle between 1 November 2026 and 31 January 2027.

The rule covers every payment made at the three sites, from admission tickets to purchases in the site shops. According to the Department, part of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the change follows instructions from the Accountant General of the Republic.

Kourion, seat of an Iron Age kingdom and later a Roman city with a theatre and houses floored with mosaics, stands on the bluff above Episkopi Bay. Kalavasos-Tenta is an Aceramic Neolithic village of round houses, lived in from the 9th millennium BCE into the 7th. A tall conical shelter now covers it, beside the Nicosia to Limassol motorway.
