The Cypriot collection

Not a holder of a Cypriot collection of its own as far as the sources show: the Swedish Cyprus Expedition finds were stored in Stockholm from 1931 and housed in the basement of the new Historiska museet building 1944-1982, and only a very small selection was shown in its permanent gallery; the collection is now the core of the Medelhavsmuseet (2012)

History

  1. 1931
The Cyprus collections (about 12,000 objects and 5,000 boxes of sherds) reached Stockholm; the National Heritage Board stored them in the unheated 18th-century Oxenstiernska Malmgården, not in the Historiska museet

  2. 1934
    G. Olson, named in the SCE I preface as 'Mr. G. Olson, Statens Historiska Museum, Stockholm', did conservation work on metal objects of the expedition, 'successfully saving many apparently hopeless cases'

  3. 1935–1936
A government commission examined what to do with the Cyprus collections; the general view was that they must go to more suitable storage
