Italian Archaeological Mission of the Institute opened its first season at Palaeokastro by the sea near Ayia Irini, under C. Gallavotti. Nicolaou gives the aim as investigating relations between Cyprus and the Minoan-Mycenaean world. Karageorghis's Chronique reports three sectors: the town on the Palaeokastro hill, a sector west of it, and the seaside necropolis.
