New York, United States · founded 2003
New York gallery opened in 2003 by Randall Hixenbaugh, dealing in Near Eastern, Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities, with a Cypriot category of pottery and a steatite scarab.
About
A New York gallery built around Randall Hixenbaugh's training in Classical archaeology, Hixenbaugh Ancient Art says it opened in 20032. The gallery says he holds a Master's degree in the subject and took part in excavations of Roman and Punic sites in Tunisia2. It deals in Near Eastern, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and other antiquities, belongs to the AADLA and CINOA, and has Hixenbaugh on the board of the International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art2. It lists sales to the Royal Ontario Museum, the Michael C. Carlos Museum, the Tampa Museum of Art, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Mougins Museum of Classical Art and the Museum August Kestner2.
Cypriot material is a steady but small line. The online gallery has a Cypriot category with a Red Polished ware jug, a poppy-form jug of c. 1600-1450 BC and a Cypro-Archaic steatite scarab showing a lion attacking a bull3,4,5,6. A 2018 copy of the older website listed a limestone bust, a Bichrome chalice, terracotta warriors and a ram head under "Judaean and Cypriot Art"7. Each object carries an inventory number and a line guaranteeing authenticity; the jug and the poppy jug cite Karageorghis, Ancient Art from Cyprus: The Cesnola Collection (2000), for parallels4,5. Cypriot prices run from about $350 to $1,5003,7.
