The Cypriot collection

Recke's 2012 survey of German museums lists 107 stone sculptures (Cypro-Archaic to Classical), 55 ceramic pieces (Early Cypriot to Cypro-Classical), 56 terracottas, 14 lamps, 1 bronze statuette, 2 other metal pieces, 3 stone tools and 9 spindle whorls; about 200 objects came from Ohnefalsch-Richter in three stages 1887-1895.     Bought, through Furtwangler, 151 finds from the Aphrodite/Astarte sanctuary at Idalion (Ohnefalsch-Richter's 1885 excavation). Furtwangler had offered Director Wagner a part of 'over 600 pieces' on 15 Feb 1887 because the whole was too much for Berlin.
