History
- February 1936Governor Richmond Palmer abolished Gunnis's Inspector of Antiquities post and named him Travelling Member of the new Antiquities Advisory Board with a 150 pound annual allowance. In 1936 the Colonial Office, under Ormsby-Gore, asked that his role be defined and the stipend forfeited.

- April 1936John Hilton, first Director of Antiquities, was dismissed in April 1936; Stanley-Price argues Gunnis's opinions helped bring this about. Hilton's March 1936 statement made charges about Gunnis's export of antiquities, which Palmer did not pursue.
