The project
In 1987 the University of Trier held one campaign at the theatre site on Fabrika hill under G. Grimm, in cooperation with the Polish mission under W. A. Daszewski1,2. The team cleaned a 6.50 × 9.50 m part of the Hellenistic theatre; Grimm took five Greek letters cut into the seating as dating it to the late fourth or early third century BC1. On the summit they exposed the foundations of an east-facing temple measuring 19.30 × 14.60 m1. Two trenches south of the cavea revealed walls of a large medieval building over an earlier one; bedrock was reached at 2.25 m at the south end of the north-south trench1. The campaign was not continued, and apart from V. Karageorghis's summary it remains unpublished2.
