The project
In 1881 Max Ohnefalsch-Richter excavated at Mari for the British Museum1. Myres and Ohnefalsch-Richter, in the 1899 Catalogue of the Cyprus Museum, describe the site as a Graeco-Phoenician necropolis and say the finds were sent to the British Museum, especially two Cypriote oenochoae painted with water-birds1. The catalogue adds that all of these are registered in the British Museum as coming from Enkomi (Salamis)1.
