The project
In April 2008 Giorgos Georgiou excavated four chamber tombs at Petraggoura for the Department of Antiquities, numbered Kokkinotrimithia Tombs 3–6 and dated from Middle Bronze Age III to Late Bronze Age IIC1. Tomb 4 was disturbed; Georgiou reports that a pictorial flask was reassembled from sherds in disturbed layers and attributes it stylistically to Late Cypriot I2. He argues that its features are rooted in local ceramic tradition while reflecting a cross-regional milieu, and that Kokkinotrimithia lay on a route linking the east and north-west coasts2. In November 2009 supermarket foundation work at Kafkalla brought to light tombs of Hellenistic and Roman date, which the report states had been looted in the past; drawings recorded their location and funerary architecture3.
