Golgoi: the Russian consul Yusefovich's tomb digging
1870 · Golgoi
The tomb digging reported at Golgoi-Agios Photos in 1870 by the Russian consul Yusefovich, a collector from whom Count Alexei Uvarov bought Cypriot antiquities in the 1870s.
The project
The Russian consul Yusefovich reportedly dug tombs not far from a temple at Golgoi (Agios Photos) in 1870; their exact location is not recorded1. Karageorghis and Bukina describe him as a collector rather than an archaeologist and say that no exact findspots for the objects are known1. In the 1870s Count Alexei Uvarov bought a collection of Cypriot antiquities from him, though which objects, if any, came from this tomb digging is unknown1.
